01 September: In Flux

The Dainty Brew | September Edition

There’s something about September that makes me feel a little...shifty.
Not necessarily in a bad way. Just shifting.
During my strolls, I've noticed outside, the trees are beginning to give us little hints that summer’s lease is almost up. A few leaves changing color here, a cooler morning there, and suddenly Fall is peeking around the corner like, “Hey guuuurl, you ready?”
And truthfully...I’m feeling a little like those trees.
Shifting.
I’ve been moving between moods lately. Excited about what’s ahead because I love living in the space of being optimistic. A little sad in those quiet pockets where grief likes to remind me it’s still around. Curious. Uncertain. Ready. Not ready.
All of it.

I wonder if you feel it too around this time of year.
There’s something about September that feels like a soft reset. The weather lets us know-Summer is still lingering, but your mind has already started looking toward the final stretch of the year. I find myself thinking about the last quarter, the things still sitting on my “To Do” list, and which boxes I really want to check before we close out another year.
And then there are these four quiet walls.
Now that I’m settling back into my empty-nesting life, I have more room to think. Sometimes out loud. Sometimes just in my own head.
So it wanders.
It thinks about what’s next. What project needs completion. What needs changing. What deserves more of my attention. And, perhaps most importantly, what no longer does.

I’m noticing that I’m becoming much more intentional about what I consume, too.
Case in point: I recently watched the last season of RHOA, and after sitting through those dreadful reunions, I had to ask myself...
Why did I just do that? All 3 weekends that totaled three hours I'll never get back.
Not because I’ve suddenly sworn off reality television. Honeeeey Chile, please!!I still have a few guilty pleasures tucked away for entertainment purposes. I love a good break from the real world.
But something felt different.
I didn’t feel entertained. I felt like I had wasted my time.
And that little realization stuck with me.
Maybe I’m shifting in more ways than I realized and it's honestly been a struggle I don't want to acknowledge.
I’m becoming more aware of the things I allow into my headspace. The conversations. The content. The noise. The things I once enjoyed simply because they were entertaining.
Now I find myself wanting more of what actually gives me something back.
More of what inspires me.
More of what stretches me.
More of what points me toward purpose instead of simply filling time.
Even here at The Dainty Brew, I can see the shifts happening.
Did you notice I skipped my August Nail Files?
Yup.
Another shift.
I’ll tell you about that one later.

I’m not making some grand announcement that I’m taking a break or disappearing for a while. Nope. That’s not really where I am.
I think I’m simply learning how to move differently.
Maybe I’ll pop in here and there. Maybe I’ll stay a little quieter. Maybe I’ll post and ghost. 😂
Honestly?
I don’t know yet.
And I’m becoming increasingly comfortable with not knowing.
What I do know is that I’m shedding another layer.
Not because there’s anything wrong with the version of me underneath it, but because growth has a funny way of making certain things feel too small for you eventually.

So I’m letting some things fall away.
Some habits. Some noise. Some expectations. Some versions of what I thought I was supposed to be doing.
And I’m curious to see what’s underneath.
Maybe this season isn’t asking me to reinvent myself.
Maybe it’s simply asking me to reveal a little more of who I’m becoming.
So, September...we’ll see.
I’m letting the leaves change.
I’m letting my thoughts wander.
I’m letting the quiet be quiet.
And I’m letting myself shift without needing to explain every little movement along the way.
Perhaps that’s where I am these days.
A little moody. A little hopeful. A little nostalgic. A little uncertain.
But still glowing.
Just...differently.
Until next month’s brew...keep finding beauty in the little pours. ☕️🍂
